Quakecon 2001 is almost here… weeeeee!! Yeah yeah I know, most of ya could give a shit, being CounterStrike players and all. BUT – Quakecon still kicks total ass! Best major LAN event of the year in my opinion. I’ll be attending again for my third year in a row, and I’ll try to take many pictures of the event. This event will last from August 9th – 12th. Gonna be a blast :-) Oh… speaking of Quake…
The Hardfought Quake3 CTF/DM/TDM Match port has risen from the proverbial ashes, resurrected by popular demand. I was a bit worried that adding that port back, along with both CS ports being full, would create too much strain on the server. Luckily that’s not the case at ALL :-) All four Hardfought ports were in use and almost to capacity last night and every player I spoke on both sides (Quake3 and CS) said the server felt just fine as usual. Soooo… I’ll be keeping the Quake3 match port up indefinitely. It’s running the latest point release from id (1.29h) along with the latest and greatest from OSP (0.99v2). If you’re a quaker, and just happen to visit the website, please let your clanmates and friends know the Quake3 match port is back in business.
Hardfought CS Invitational Tournament – S-audiks and TsK battled it out last night for the title of Loser’s Bracket Champion. This was a very close match, with TsK winning with a score of 16-10. Congrats Tsk!! They’ll now try to claim the title of Overall Tournament Champion along with 3dL. This match will happen sometime this coming weekend… or should anyways :-P I’ll be creating a new table in the tourney section just for this match. Since the Loser’s Bracket champs have to win twice to win overall, the rules for this final match are going to be slightly different than the rest of the matches have gone. It’s not going to be based on total rounds, but how many times you can win the map you’re playing. Round count will still be thirteen per map. If 3dL wins one 13 round map, they win the whole deal. TsK must do this *twice* in order to become overall champion since they are coming from the Loser’s Bracket. There’s potential here for this to go three maps… could be very interesting indeed. I’ll keep ya posted on when this final match-up is gonna happen.
OK ok ok… I know I’m bad about this one, I admit it. A lot of you send me your custom sprays to use on the CS ports and custom avatars for your msgboard profiles. I get so many emails a day, some (ok, most) of those get lost and jumbled up with everything else and I either have to spend a lot of time digging them out once a month or just wind up forgetting about them altogether. That’s not fair to you guys who expect me to honor your request, so… here’s what we’re gonna do. I set up two more distribution lists on my email server today, just for these purposes. From now on – if you want a custom spray on the server, send it to custom_sprays@hardfought.org … if you want your own avatar on the msgboard, send it to avatars@hardfought.org – this way I can easily separate the two from everything else and give them the proper attention they deserve. For those of you who have already sent me your custom sprays/avatars, don’t worry about it, I’m gonna dig one more time for those and get ’em done this week. From this point on though, if your avatar/spray isn’t sent to the appropriate email account, it’ll be deleted. I’ll post links to the appropriate accounts here and on each port’s MOTD so there’s no misunderstanding about what to send what to where. Um… did that make sense? :-) Heh…
To wrap up – I’ll try to do Quakecon coverage as it happens from time to time from Quakecon itself. If not, I’ll just run home real quick and do a short blurb. Eat More Lead sent me a hat a few days ago. It’s a special red hat. You may be familiar with them in his monthly ‘Who won this month’s HAT award’ posts on the msgboard. Now, I am required to put on this mental hat and take a picture of myself wearing this silly hat for everyone to see. I was about to do this when my dog Scout started barking loudly. ‘What’s that boy? Did Grandpa fall in the well again? No? Ooooh… you wanna wear the HAT!!’ Smart dog for only being 15 weeks old, heh? :-P Sooo… in parting, I leave you with Scout as himself, then wearing his Mental hat… and then a picture of what happens when Scout finds your wallet in your back jeans pocket while you’re asleep…
